Teaching Examples
Both of the following videos I found on YouTube, posted by Allegany College of Maryland. I found these videos to be a good representation of what to do and what not to do when teaching. Both of these videos are focused in a post-secondary classroom setting and therefore may have some different effective and ineffective teaching styles than those in a classroom of younger students. These two videos are based on the same lecture, one showing good teaching characteristics and one showing bad, therefore making it easy to compare and spot the differences in teaching methods.
Effective teaching
In this video, the teacher does a variety of things while teaching the lesson that I found to get the information across to the students effectively. Firstly, the teacher presented herself confidently, a very important way to present yourself as a teacher for I believe that confidence gains the respect of those around you. The teacher is also very clear, giving many examples and breaking terms down into simpler words. She also ensures that when writing on the board, that she writes neatly and big enough for everyone to see and is very organized in her presentation. Lastly, at the end of the video, she makes it evident that she is open to questions and makes herself approachable to her students, creating a safe and positive learning environment.

ineffective teaching example
Contrary to the first video, this representation shows a confidence-lacking and unorganized teacher. Her lack of confidence can lead to students not taking her seriously and perhaps to students not paying as much attention as they would to a confident speaker. This teacher is not prepared and by trying to prepare her examples in the presence of her students in the classroom, she allows for a break in her lesson which can be harmful to the attention of her students. She also appears to assume that each student has prior memory of the concepts she is attempting to teach and therefore doesn't further explain topics. Overall, this example of teaching I would imagine to be very frustrating to listen to as a student, as the teacher is very unorganized and unclear, making for a very ineffective lesson.
